Materials You'll Need
Fabric scraps or fat quarters
Fusible interfacing (optional)
Iron
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Ribbon or twine
Step-by-Step Tutorial:
1. Choose Your Fabric: Select fabric scraps or fat quarters in your desired colors and patterns for the bookmarks. Consider using lightweight cotton or linen fabrics for best results.
2. Cut Fabric: Cut two pieces of fabric to your desired bookmark size, adding an extra 1/4 inch to each side for seam allowance. If using fusible interfacing, cut one piece to the same size.
3. Fuse Interfacing (Optional): If using fusible interfacing to add stiffness to the bookmark, follow the manufacturer's instructions to fuse it to the wrong side of one fabric piece using an iron.
4. Layer Fabric: Place the two fabric pieces right sides together, aligning the edges evenly. Pin in place if desired.
5. Sew Edges: Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, sew around the edges of the bookmark, leaving a small opening for turning.
6. Trim Corners: Trim the corners diagonally to reduce bulk and create crisp corners once turned right side out.
7. Turn Right Side Out: Carefully turn the bookmark right side out through the opening, using a chopstick or pencil to gently push out the corners.
8. Press: Press the bookmark with an iron to flatten the seams and create a neat, crisp edge.5. Sew Edges: Using a sewing machine or needle and thread, sew around the edges of the bookmark, leaving a small opening for turning."
